3. File reports with the FTC and your local police. Whether you file a police report or not is ultimately up to you, though it may be required by some businesses to get charges reversed or accounts closed, and it can be helpful in the future if you continue to have problems. No matter what, you should definitely file a report with the Federal Trade Commission to document the fraud. The agency has set up an easy-to-use website, IdentityTheft.gov, specifically for this purpose. 4. Assess and repair the damage.
